My response to native soil was that I was pretty impressed by how graphical it was. I felt like I was there. What really surprised me was how the bush administration was expecting it to happen and it was the second time a attack occurred on the twin towers and they didn’t do anything about it. I don’t know if amerce thinks that just because they are a super power nothing can happen to them, it like saying someone is perfect but truly no one is perfect. Groves highschool does allow cultural diffrences because everyone in are school is accepting and are school is very accepting. The benfits of a sald bowl are sometimes its good to be around your own kind becuase they understand you best most of the time and the drawbacks for a salad bowl are, you need to be diverse sometimes. The good stuff about a melting pot is its very helathy to be diverse and mixed with other races, and the drawbacks are you might not like the other races you are mixed with. The pressures that students encounter to fit in with in the school culture is always the student do stupid uncalled for stuff to grab attention and seem cool and no its not worth it and the cost is you either look stupid and embarse yourself

  1. I don't feel that Groves has a definite structure as melting pot or as a salad bowl, I think it is somewhere in between. For the most part every one at groves is somewhat similar, in terms of personality, clothes and interests which would favor the melting pot standpoint; however, there are some students that stand out, and some that are far from the norm, which would favor the salad bowl standpoint. The groves climate definitely allows for cultural expression, there is a certain "group" or "click" for every person imaginable. Some drawbacks of a melting pot would be, no room for expression, individuality is frowned upon and the need to feel accepted or "normal". The drawbacks of a salad bowl would be the complete opposite, no standard, a group of extreme characters may cause tension and less interaction.

I think Groves is a small scale America. We have very similar percentages when compared to all of America, with the exception of the Mexican community.

Language plays a huge role in identifying which group an individual belongs to, each group has their own language and mode of expression.

  2. When I got to Groves highschool one of the major things Groves preeches is diversity. There are many different races and cultures at Groves highschool and I feel like the students respect eachother for what they are.

By saying this I believe Groves is actually more of a melting pot than a salad bowl. There are some people that will not interact with others if they are not like them, but I feel like most students mix well with the other cultures in our school. The majority of the groups at Groves have all different types of people in that group. Groves students have learned about diversity and I think they do respect others no matter the race or culture.
